Welcome to my blog!

If you ask me what my very favourite thing is I would not hesitate to say my family. I came into motherhood quite late on, and was immediately overwhelmed with how amazing it is. Now I would like nothing more than to be a Domestic Goddess, and surround my family in love, good food, beautiful things and lots of happy memories. And like the majority of families these days, we need to do it on a budget!

I firmly believe we all have a little bit of the Domestic Goddess inside us, just waiting to break out. Whether that is knowing how to make a roast chicken feed a family of 4 for a week, being able to make, repair or recycle clothes, hunting down a bargain, or simply turning everyday, simple things into pretty or useful items, with a little bit of imagination we can all dip in to the Goddess inside and make our lives that little bit more interesting.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy sharing my (challenging) journey into Domestic Goddessness!

You can't make one without the other....

One thing I've learned as a mum is that if one child has something another will invariably want it too, even if they had no interest 30 seconds earlier. This theory was tested this week when I bought a soft toy for little man (the first time I've bought something for him that he didn't need!) and within minutes of arriving home with it it was claimed by Tig! But thankfully Caelan is only 10 wks old, so full on squabble and meltdown was avoided!

So you might recall a couple of weeks ago Caoimhe chose some purple furry fabric from the sewing shop. This weekend we decided to turn it into something...and rather stupidly I suggested a spider. Stupidly because 8 legs made it a bit tricky to sew together neatly. Still I managed with some help from my sister in law (thanks Fiona) especially the hand sewing which I hate! Although I did have the excuse of having to feed Caelan when it came to the hand sewing bit....thanks son :)

As you can see from the picture I couldn't, and didn't, stop with the spider. As the post title says, I couldn't make for one and not the other, unless I wanted to be responsible for the next World War. I had initially intended to make a smaller spider from the remnants of fur but sadly there wasn't enough left. So I decided to make an owl cuddly/cushion instead using an old blouse of mine, which I'll never get near again thanks to breastfeeding 3 kids, as the owl's face.

I'm quite enjoying sewing at the moment, though I am itching to do some knitting and crochet at some point in the near future...I just can't decide what I want to do. I have a box full of yarn that I should really sort through and then maybe I will be inspired.

I may find inspiration over on the crafty blogs linked up for  Handmade Monday  Some great crafters are linked there so have a look. As soon as I get 5 minutes peace (anyone know where I'll find that??!) I'll be over there.

In the meantime have a great bank holiday and those of you with children off for half term I hope you have lots of fun filled family time.

Til next time!

Haha! As soon as you said spider I thought "how would you do 8 legs"? But you seem to have managed and both are fab! Respect too with a ten week old on your hands! xxx

This design is incredible! You obviously know how to
keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost.
..HaHa!) Great job. I really enjoyed what you had to say,
and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!

Both lovely, but the owl is very cute. good luck finding some time for yourself - if you do, bottle it and let it out every so often. Hope you have a good week.

Great toys :)
That phrase '5 minutes peace' brings back memories for me - we used to cheat (children a little older) and tell them we would just have five minutes peace and then stretch it as far as we could! Often managed a good half hour :)

Hope you get your 'five' minutes..
