Welcome to my blog!

If you ask me what my very favourite thing is I would not hesitate to say my family. I came into motherhood quite late on, and was immediately overwhelmed with how amazing it is. Now I would like nothing more than to be a Domestic Goddess, and surround my family in love, good food, beautiful things and lots of happy memories. And like the majority of families these days, we need to do it on a budget!

I firmly believe we all have a little bit of the Domestic Goddess inside us, just waiting to break out. Whether that is knowing how to make a roast chicken feed a family of 4 for a week, being able to make, repair or recycle clothes, hunting down a bargain, or simply turning everyday, simple things into pretty or useful items, with a little bit of imagination we can all dip in to the Goddess inside and make our lives that little bit more interesting.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy sharing my (challenging) journey into Domestic Goddessness!

End of an Era

My little girl finishes nursery this week, ready to stqrt in reception in September.  I know I'm not the only mum wondering where on earth the time goes, as clichéd as it sounds, it really does seem only 5 minutes since those two little lines appeared on that stick, and now here she is, ready to start school!

Although she's at a school nursery already,  she is moving on to another school in September and sadly she will be leaving some of her friends behind. I am probably more aware of this than she is (she is very excited about the 'big adventure she is starting) and though I don't want to make a big deal of it, I did suggest that perhaps along with her teachers, she might like to give little gifts to one or two of her 'very best' friends.  She was very happy with that so I set off with my hook and yarn. I had to limit her to two friends as I ran out of time... Unfortunately we all got hit with a sickness bug over the last week so I just didn't have the opportunities to do as much as I wanted to. But you can see the two finished headbands. You might notice they are 'genius' headbands again (the pattern is available on Ravelry) it's a lovely pattern and I'm sure I will be making many more. This time I have embellished them with simple crocheted flowers and a button. I hope the two little girls like them!

I have learned today that Caoimhe's new school has a craft club, teaching them knitting and crochet amongst other things. I'm really pleased about it, obviously,  and will definitely be enrolling Caoimhe as soon as she has settled into school life. You don't hear much about knitting /crochet classes for kids and I think it's a fab idea.

As well as the headbands for her friends,  and the apple cosy teachers presents I managed to fit in a bit of time today with Caoimhe to make the teachers cards. I think she did a lovely job, with minimal input from mummy. Pics to follow on another post. I haven't made many cards at all recently so it was nice to get some of my cardmaking 'kit' out for a change and lovely to spend a bit of time making something with Caoimhe (even if her brother did decide he wanted feeding in the middle of it! )

I'm a bit late to the party this week but hopefully I will make it in time to join Wendy for

 handmade Monday

Hopefully I will get chance to read some of the lovely and inspiring blogs linked over there.

Til next time!

The little headbands are very sweet, and I love the little crochet flower. It sounds like your daughter has had a wonderful time at Nursery, I hope she enjoys her new school when September comes around.

Very cute headbands. I'm sure the little girls will love them. Your post brings back some memories! I can remember when my girls started school and now they have been through Uni and onto work!!! My, how that time has passed! Don't blink will you! Lol :)

Cute headbands that I think any little girl would be delighted to wear.

Whilst I don't have any children, I can remember my first year at school. I loved it. There were only six in the class (I lived in a small village) so it was brilliant.

Sadly it closed the following year so we all had to go to a much school. Going from six to forty in a year group was such a culture shock !!!!

The hairbands are a lovely gift, my daughter still gives little handmade gifts to her friends at the end of the school year, and she's 13! Have a great week, Jo x

Hope you are all feeling much better now. The headbands are gorgeous and I am sure they were well liked. Lovely news that Caoimhe's new school has a craft club. Hope her last day at nursery wasn't too sad - for you especially.
