Welcome to my blog!

If you ask me what my very favourite thing is I would not hesitate to say my family. I came into motherhood quite late on, and was immediately overwhelmed with how amazing it is. Now I would like nothing more than to be a Domestic Goddess, and surround my family in love, good food, beautiful things and lots of happy memories. And like the majority of families these days, we need to do it on a budget!

I firmly believe we all have a little bit of the Domestic Goddess inside us, just waiting to break out. Whether that is knowing how to make a roast chicken feed a family of 4 for a week, being able to make, repair or recycle clothes, hunting down a bargain, or simply turning everyday, simple things into pretty or useful items, with a little bit of imagination we can all dip in to the Goddess inside and make our lives that little bit more interesting.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I enjoy sharing my (challenging) journey into Domestic Goddessness!

The Great Gallery Sewing Bee!

I stumbled across the Great British Sewing Bee by accident last week and must say I've really enjoyed watching it. It's the final this week.and I'm rooting for Lauren to win. Loving her efforts and my word is she talented! Is anyone else watching it? Who are you wanting to win??

So this weekend we had our own sewing bee! I used to sew when I was little. I was never amazing at it but I got by. I have found, like many women I suspect, that after having kids my self confidence has taken a bashing. So it was lovely to sit with my sister in law Fiona and make a few things, just having someone there bolstering my confidence was what I needed. And it was fun too. I made a couple of things for Caelan, a taggie and a stuffed felt rabbit. I'll share the picture of the rabbit on another post. The taggie (pictured above) is a true upcycled item. It's make from a receiving blanket which I no longer use, I had been swaddling Caelan with it (shhh don't tell the health visitor!) but he has grown out of being swaddled now (mostly because he likes to sleep with mummy but don't tell the health visitor that either!)  and I won't be (intentionally!) having any more children. It was used for all three children  and now it'll stay in the family a bit longer! The back is part of a muslin  square, that essential bit of fabric all mums must have a hoard of! The ribbons were acquired after a trip to my mum's! I am fairly pleased with the finish article but it remains to be seen whether Himself will be impressed with it! You might recall that I made a taggie for Teaghan some time ago, and although it stays in her cot that's the extent of her interest in it!

This week we found out that our eldest has not been allocated to our first choice school, which happens to be where she is at nursery. I can't say I am overly surprised as it is not our parish school, which she has been allocated a place for and we are happy for her to attend, but we were quite disappointed obviously as she is very happy and settled at the nursery. But I have been incredibly proud of the way Caoimhe has reacted. She has accepted that she will be leaving her nursery friends behind and is looking forward to making new ones. She says going to a new school will be a big adventure. My children never cease to amaze me in the way they see things, and embrace everything with so much eagerness. I know Caelan will be no different. They're awesome, kids, aren't they?!

As usual i'd like to link up with Wendy for Handmade Harbour  and I'll be having a bimble over to see what everyone else has been doing this week.

Til next time!

Loving the Sewing Bee programme. At first I thought it wouldn't make good telly, but a lot of my non-sewer friends also seem to like it. Also rooting for Lauren. The only bit that I find a bit annoying, is the quick instructional bit. Even as a sewer this bit is almost impossible to follow, so non-sewers must be completely bambozzled.

Kids are completely fabulous- that's for sure. My daughter is the absolute centre of my universe. Don't worry too much about the school- I know it's disappointing, but I'm sure your little one will adapt very quickly. My daughter was at a private nursery and when she started school last year with nobody she knew we feared the worst, but she's been brilliant!

I love the GBSB- I can't decide who should win - they are all talented. My grandson couldn't get into the nursery attached to their local school and so didn't 'move up' with the nursery class but still found friends there and loves school.

Good news that you got the first choice of school - always a worry. I am sure Caoimhe will really enjoy her time there. I am relay enjoying the GBSB - I used to make a lot of my clothes, curtains, etc and haven't for years but can see myself getting my sewing machine out again. Fingers crossed for Lauren. Hope you have a good week.

It seems a lot of people have been lured back to their sewing machines by the great British sewing bee. I hope you keep it up.

I haven't seen any of the sewing bee as yet, I might check if it's on catch up as it seems quite popular.
My daughter is waiting to see if her son gets to stay at the school he currently attends nursery at. Fingers crossed :)
I find that children usually adapt really well.

I've really enjoyed the sewing bee, I wasn't convinced it would work to start off but it been good fun. I don't have a favourite contestant, I think they're all really brave. I'm sure your daughter will settle into school well. Children are always so amazing in the way they cope with things. Take care.

It is silly the way we loose confidence when really we should gain it. There is nothing harder than being a parent yet somehow instead of boosting our confidence it saps it. I hope that you continue to find ways to boost your confidence.

Gina is right about the viewer make on GSB, especially considering the really good diagrams that they show for the main make for the show e.g. making trousers and adding a fly zip. I've bought the book and it has all of the things made in the show, with good diagrams and instructions -I've not made anything yet though.
It's lovely to see you picking up sewing needles again and it's akways fun to sew with other people.

I don't even know how I ended up here, but I thought this post was good. I do not know who you are but certainly you are going to a famous blogger if you are not already ;) Cheers!
